SendGrid is an email API built for developers. We are an email platform with a deliverability team attached. Both send mail reliably at scale, so the real question is who does the deliverability work: your team, or ours.
Sources and dating. SendGrid is currently migrating from sendgrid.com onto twilio.com. The pricing below was read from the Twilio SendGrid Email API pricing page on 19 August 2026. Pricing changes, so treat every figure here as accurate as of that date and check their current pricing page before making a decision. If you find something out of date here, tell us and we will correct it.
| All In One Email | Twilio SendGrid | |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | Per message sent, with tiers published on the site: $0.80 CPM up to 100,000 emails/month, $0.70 up to 1 million, $0.60 up to 2.5 million. Higher volumes quoted. | Per message sent. The published figures are floors, not rates: Essentials from $19.95/mo, Pro from $89.95/mo covering the whole 100,000 to 2,500,000 range, Premier custom. |
| Cost at high volume | Calculable in advance. 1,000,000 emails/month works out at $700 on the $0.70 tier. | Not publicly determinable. The $89.95/mo Pro figure is a starting price spanning a 25x volume range, so the cost at 1 million is only available by quote. We selected every volume band on their pricing page on 19 August 2026 and the displayed prices did not change. |
| Price transparency | Tiers are published. You can work out your monthly cost before speaking to anyone. | Floor prices only above the entry tier. Comparing like for like at volume requires contacting sales. |
| Deliverability work | Included in Platform Plus Sending and Fully Managed. Authentication, reputation monitoring, warm-up and provider remediation are done by our staff. | Expert Services and Personalized Support are listed as "Available for purchase" on paid plans rather than included. Expert Email Program Management is listed at the Premier tier. |
| Dedicated IPs | Authenticated, reputable IPs included, with multi-relay routing across more than one path. | 1 dedicated IP included on Pro and Premier, with the option to purchase more. |
| Who operates it | Our team, if you want that. Fully Managed means we run strategy, deployment and optimization as your outsourced email team. | Your team. SendGrid is infrastructure and tooling; operating the program is your job unless you buy services separately. |
| Best fit | Organizations that need email to work but do not want to hire an email operations team, especially in political, nonprofit and advocacy sending. | Engineering teams that want a well-documented API, and that already have, or want to build, deliverability expertise in house. |
We would rather you pick the right tool than pick us. These are the cases where we would genuinely point you elsewhere.
If someone on your team already owns authentication, reputation monitoring and warm-up, you are paying us for work you can already do. Buy the infrastructure and keep the margin.
At high volume SendGrid's per-message pricing is lower than ours. If sending is a solved problem for you and cost is the deciding factor, they win that comparison.
Receipts, password resets and notifications driven from your application are exactly what the SendGrid API is built for. That is a developer integration, not an email program.
If you already run Twilio for SMS or voice, consolidating email there is a reasonable operational choice regardless of what we would do differently.
For raw sending volume, no. SendGrid's per-message pricing is lower. We are priced higher because the deliverability work is done by our team rather than yours, so the fair comparison is our fee against the cost of the staff time you would otherwise spend.
Yes. Migration usually means authenticating your domains on our relays, warming IPs gradually while SendGrid continues to carry production traffic, then shifting volume over once placement is stable. Many customers start on Fully Managed during the migration and move to Platform Plus Sending once their team is confident.
Yes, as a paid addition. As of 19 August 2026, their pricing page lists Expert Services and Personalized Support as "Available for purchase" rather than included with a plan, and lists Expert Email Program Management at the Premier tier. The difference is that we include that work in the plan rather than selling it separately.
We offer multi-relay SMTP sending, which covers application-generated mail. If your requirement is a deeply integrated developer API with extensive client libraries, that is SendGrid's core strength and we would tell you so.
